Our two compost piles continue to be active, still around 100 degrees. Each week the level in the containers drops about 6", so despite the process slowing in the winter months, breakdown is still happening!
Despite two households being away we still collected 147.6lbs of kitchen scraps to be converted into rich compost for the spring!
As always a huge thank you to all our households and especially the Chass household who shreds all the newspaper for us every week. This is an onerous task, and it is much appreciated. We used to rip the newspaper up by hand but that was very time consuming and also not very effective as the ripped pieces of newspaper were too large to break down quickly.
On another note, we have had some interest from a household in Ridgefield. This is too far for us to include on our route, but if anyone knows any environmental enthusiasts who would like to set up a similar project in Ridgefield please let us know! We would be delighted to help set up another composting project in a new area.
Happy composting all!
