Second Pilot!

Having been inspired by a recent visit by Waste Free Greenwich, we would love to try to further increase the impact of our project, keeping more food waste out of landfil.  We plan to run this pilot alongside our current composting project and are hoping it will be as successful!

How this pilot differs

There are certain items the Greenwich Composting Project cannot compost at our site. These items include dairy, meat, bones, left over food with dairy, meat or oils.  We are asking our participating households to segregate these for a twice a month pickup when we weigh the waste and take it to Holly Hill. Holly Hill have the necessary resources to compost these materials.

How it works

  1. Segregate the items on the list below and store them separately from your other kitchen scraps
    1. Meat
    2. Bones
    3. Dairy
    4. Left over meals
    5. Rice
    6. Cake
    7. Fish
  2. Store them ready for pick up. We suggest storing in freezer to reduce unpleasant odors!
  3. On pick up day leave in an accessible spot outside.

First pilot household

So far we have one household experimenting with this additional composting. It's early days but it's all about developing the habit. After every meal, any scraps which cannot go into the regular composting bin are scrapped into freezer containers to await collection.
