We had another successful pickup today! We saved 109.4 pounds of kitchen scraps from landfill. So far, by composing our neighborhood kitchen scraps rather than throwing them in the trash, we are massively reducing methane emissions. If these scraps sit in landfill for 20 years, they would produce over 58 thousand tons of methane emissions. In addition to saving over 58,000 tons CO2e emissions, compost acts as a carbon sink or 'sponge' that can soak up emissions currently in the atmosphere. Our small project has a massive impact!
For a visual the weight of the kitchen scraps that we have saved over the last four months is the equivalent of a full grown polar bear!
