2/23 Update - almost 100lbs!

February, 2024

A great day!  Despite it being a short week and two of our thirteen households being away, we still collected 99.8lbs of compostable materials.  Thank you all.  We noticed some households collected much more than usual and we really appreciate this!  Thank you also for the egg cartons and newspapers - Seb, our volunteer for this week, ripped them up and mixed them into our pile - this is a great source of carbon to balance the nitrogen-rich kitchen scraps.  The egg shells are also great for the worms, happy worms, happy garden!  As Spring approaches we need to start researching the ideal curing period for the finished compost so we can start planning to give compost to our participating households.  Ideally we would love to have usable product by Spring but this may be a bit ambitious.  New plan is to stop adding to our two existing piles and start a third, while turning piles 1 and 2 on a regular basis.
