A great week! On Tuesday Greenwich Composting Project celebrated Earth Day by going back to where the team originally met: Parkway Elementary School. GCP had the kind invitation to present to Parkway on the topic of composting. Maggie and Kian Madden, members of GCP and students at Parkway, helped lead the assembly - great job Maggie and Kian, you made it so much more interesting and fun! The Parkway students already knew a lot about composting (many are already composting with GCP) and were a great audience, asking some excellent, and sometimes very challenging, questions. Thank you so much Parkway for having us!
The next exciting bit of news is our project featured in the weekly newsletter for the Greenwich Democrats. If you are interested in learning more you can access the article here. It is a great article, not just about us, but also about 3 other inspiring environmental programs run by Greenwich students. The day the article was published we received a record number of information requests through our website which was both rewarding and encouraging!
Now for the weekly update! To round off a great week we added 162.2lbs of kitchen scraps to our compost piles - a great amount! Our active pile is getting very hot again (around 140 degrees) so we will be aerating every day to make sure the pile has sufficient oxygen so all those extremely busy microbes can survive and work!
As always thank you to all our wonderful composting members who make this project possible! Also if you are headed to the Live Like Luke Beach Clean Up tomorrow, stop by our table and say hello!
