This has been a great week in the world of composting with the GCP feeling more motivated that ever and proud to be part of the amazing Greenwich community. GCP joined Julie and Britta from Waste Free Greenwich at the farmers market in Old Greenwich this week. It was so motivating to see how many Greenwich residents turned up to drop off their kitchen scraps. Not only were residents dropping off their yard waste, there was also lots of composting chit chat - some asking questions and others sharing their success stories - it was a fun couple of hours, and, as is always the case when we meet with WFG, we left with renewed enthusiasm towards reducing landfill waste!
It was at the farmers market that we learned Teddy Lovejoy has refurbished the compost bins at the Botanical Garden Center, we visited today and we were really impressed with Teddy's work! These bins are only for use of the Botanical Center as they don't want to risk contamination but it looks like they are already fully functional!
Good news always comes in threes, and the third exciting bit of news is that GCP was helped today by Kevin Prince, a local middle schooler, who not only helped with our pick-up but also transported the scraps up the hill and did some strenuous turning - thanks Kevin! It is so wonderful having the whole community involved!
Now for facts and figures - this week we collected 161lbs of kitchen scraps - an impressive amount considering roughly half our households are away.
Thank you everyone and here's to continued composting positivity! π±πππ₯¬πͺ±β»οΈππ§‘πΏπͺ΄ππππΎβ¨

Kudos GCP. Youβve made this project a giant success and no reason our grateful community canβt take on some of the work, too.
