❄️ One Hot Bin, Frozen Ground & Global Interest!

Published on 6 February 2026 at 16:11

It’s only been a week since our last update, but there’s still plenty happening at the Greenwich Composting Project.

♻️ This Week’s Total

We diverted 147.2 lbs of kitchen scraps from landfill this week—thank you to everyone who kept composting despite the cold!

🔥 Compost Check: Survival of the Warmest

Last week we had two warm bins, sitting at 80°F and 85°F. We only added scraps to one of them—and it paid off. That bin is now a toasty 110°F!  It still amazes us how warm the piles can get when we get the ratios right!

The other bin? Completely frozen solid. Winter has officially decided we’re down to one active bin for now—but the good news is that it’s working hard. In just one week, the level in that bin dropped by over a foot, showing just how quickly the scraps are breaking down even during this cold snap.

🌍 From Local to Global

We’ve also noticed something exciting behind the scenes: interest in GCP is growing beyond Greenwich. Along with our usual website visitors from the United States, we’ve had recent views from the UK, France, and Azerbaijan. It’s amazing to see a small, local composting project reaching people around the world!

As always, thank you for being part of this effort. Cold weather or not, the scraps keep coming—and so does the impact.

Happy composting! 🌱♻️
