The difference some carbon makes!

Last week our carbon:nitrogen rations were a little off resulting in the pile cooling in little, but after adding a decent amount of shredded newspaper and more aerating, the pile heated up again very quickly.  These two temperatures were taken less than that 24 hours apart! The microbes are definitely very active!

Now for this week's news.  A big thank you to Addison and Noah for doing the majority of the pick up this week and our usual thanks to all of you who were able to drop off, it makes a huge difference!  A total of 189.9lbs was collected and mixed into our compost pile.  Now that summer is approaching we will have more time on our hands and so hope to have more heat treated compost available soon.  We have hundreds of pounds of finished compost but as yet untreated.  We will keep you posted!
