🎉 Greenwich Composting Project: Two Years, 15,000 Pounds, and Counting! 🌱

  • It’s been a big two weeks for GCP—and we’re excited to share some major milestones!

🎂 We celebrated our 2-year anniversary! What started as a small neighborhood idea has grown into a full-on movement. From cold compost piles to temperature logs, and from skeptical neighbors to composting champions—we’ve come a long way.

♻️ We officially passed 15,000 pounds of food scraps saved from landfill. As of this week, our total is 15,034.7 lbs—that’s 7.5 tons of kitchen waste given a new life as nutrient-rich compost instead of rotting in a landfill.

    📈 Our numbers keep climbing:

    • This week’s collection: 215 lbs

    • Last week’s collection: 196.6 lbs
Our weekly averages are steadily increasing as more and more neighbors join the composting crew. We’re so proud of this growing community.

🐛 Mini worm farms = major fun!
Last weekend, Mariam joined Britta from Waste Free Greenwich to help kids build their own mini worm bins. From squirmy red wigglers to curious questions about poop and microbes, it was an absolute blast!

    🎃 Pumpkins Wanted!
As your pumpkin displays start to wind down, don’t toss them in the trash. GCP will happily take your pumpkins (carved or not) and give them a second life in our compost pile. We’ll be leaving a large bin out next week just for pumpkin drop-off and will keep it out for a few weeks.

Thank you to our amazing community for supporting GCP. Let’s keep composting, educating, and growing together!

    🌍💚 Happy Composting!
