20,000lbs...Who needs a gym?

Published on 8 May 2026 at 19:52

This week we collected 137.3 lbs of food scraps AND passed a huge milestone: GCP has now diverted 20,058.8 lbs of food scraps from landfill! We honestly cannot quite believe it. Between the three of us, we have now hauled more than 20,000 lbs up our huge hill — which definitely feels like better, and cheaper, than a gym membership.

To put that in perspective, 20,000 lbs is about the weight of 100 full-size refrigerators, 4 adult elephants, or 2 large pickup trucks. Not bad for three teenagers, some buckets, and a lot of determination.

The piles were a bit cooler last week, but we are now back on frequent turning duty, and all three piles are once again hot and very active, which is great to see.

Thank you, as always, to everyone who keeps the project going by saving scraps, dropping off, leaving out buckets, and cheering us on.

If you know someone who would like to join, send them our way!
